The tension is palpable as hundreds of eager contestants from across America prepare to take part in what is undoubtedly one of the greatest events of their lives: the Mayflower Dog Show. A standout in the mockumentary genre, Best in Show follows a "documentary film crew" as they capture a cast of eccentrics (and their four-legged protégés) from all walks of life. Mild-mannered salesman Gerry Fleck (Eugene Levy) and his vivacious wife Cookie (Catherine O'Hara) happily prepare their Norwich Terrier, while shop owner Harlan Pepper (Christopher Guest) hopes his bloodhound wins top prize. Two high-strung yuppies (Parker Posey and Michael Hitchcock) anxiously ready their neurotic Weimaraner, and an ecstatically happy gay couple (Michael McKean and John Michael Higgins) dote on their tiny Shih Tzu. This biting send-up of dog-show culture is sure to delight.
