Description

Our series on mindfulness at the movies returns with this mind-expanding portrait of Richard Alpert, a.k.a. Ram Dass, one of the true spiritual icons of the 1960s and 1970s.

Best known for his 1971 bestseller Be Here Now, this writer, yoga guru and former Harvard psychologist helped popularize Eastern spirituality in the West following a life-changing journey to India in the '60s. Filmmaker Mickey Lemle—who has known his subject for more than 25 years—intersperses vivid archival footage from hippiedom’s glory days with intimate glimpses of Ram Dass at the turn of the 21st century, as he continued to remake his life. This engrossing, poignant meditation explores concepts of spirituality, consciousness, healing and the unexpected grace of aging.

Featuring a special pre-film guided meditation by Moustafa Abdelrahman, an Applied Mindfulness Meditation Specialist, teacher and register psychotherapist who leads guided mindfulness courses and workshops with The 519.
