Description

It can be tough to find true love in a modern world. For three young Chinese women, technology offers some solace and comfort. Loneliness, personal traumas and gender rights intersect as the three seek some sort of connection, even in a digital landscape. Over the last few years, which have seen a growing epidemic of isolation and significant advancements made in AI technology, in parallel, there has been an increase in attempts to generate connection using algorithms designed to lift our spirits and shift our focus away from the darker corners of the contemporary world. To fall in love with an AI avatar may seem like a chilling, futuristic prospect, but it could provide a sense of discovery and engagement not experienced before. Replica shines a light on this new wave of digitally modulated relationships and is an exploration of trying to find balance between the real world and the virtual. Gabor Pertic
