Along the Lawa River, Wayana families live with the quiet aftershocks of intrusion. In luminous black-and-white, this lyrical film traces how mining, missionaries and medicine ripple through daily life, revealing colonial histories etched into lands and bodies.

Description

A coal mine, operating unofficially in Morocco, becomes a stage on which the difficulty and precision of work takes on a nerve-wracking yet meditative tone. In this mesmerizing, beautifully haunting work, colliers perform their work in tight and winding underground shafts, meticulously framed in long shots that leave much room for simultaneous rumination and tension. Rolla Tahir
