Truth and Dare: Celebrating the most mind-expanding, form-pushing works emerging from the documentary world with a one-of-a-kind, can’t miss event!
“Consistently laugh-out-loud funny, compelling and surprising” - The Guardian
How was concrete invented? In a style that will be familiar to fans of HBO series How To with John Wilson, The History of Concrete is (maybe, sort of) filmmaker John Wilson’s attempt to answer that question.
Wilson uses the subject of concrete as a jumping-off point for a series of tangents about lost love, Hallmark filmmaking, and his obsession with an absurd DMX deep cut. In keeping with the spirit of How To, The History of Concrete mines humour from the strangeness of everyday city life while maintaining a tone that is sweet and humane, rather than exploitative. This is the most compelling documentary about building materials of the year, if not the decade.
The Toronto premiere of The History of Concrete will be preceded by the world premiere of Taxi Drivers (D: Clover, Sacha Kingston-Wayne), a short documentary about fake cab drivers scamming unsuspecting Toronto residents.
