Description

The Documentaries of Demme (+1): A Tribute - We’re playing seven of our favourite documentaries by the great Jonathan Demme (with one special bonus).

There simply might not be another movie like Something Wild, Jonathan Demme’s infectious and energetic 1986 cult hit. Playing like a screwball odyssey with equal credit due to classical Hollywood and Demme’s B-movie origins, the film follows a straight-edged New York trader named Charlie (Jeff Daniels) who falls under the spell of the feisty and mysterious Lulu (Melanie Griffith), ending up in a heated battle over her with Lulu’s psychotic ex-husband Ray (Ray Liotta, rounding out a pitch perfect cast). Supremely entertaining with Demme’s trademark warmth at the film’s core, Something Wild is like nothing else.

This screening will be introduced by Calum Marsh, Arts & Culture Reporter for National Post.
