Having debuted in 2014 to high praise, Christopher Wheeldon’s powerful adaptation of Shakespeare's poignant romance has quickly become a Royal Ballet classic with its rousing score and sophisticated choreography. Beginning as an intense drama about a crumbling marriage when Leontes suspects his wife Hermione of an affair and abandons their child out of suspicion of its legitimacy, The Winter’s Tale lightens and moves into comedy and playfulness, ending finally in a touching reconciliation. Wheeldon ingeniously shapes his ballet through these shifting movements from the dark to the light, from jealousy and betrayal to hope and joy.
Includes one 15 min intermission.
