Description

Our series on the future of Toronto returns with this urgent dispatch from the frontlines of urban development. Battle for Brooklyn follows the story of reluctant activist Daniel Goldstein as he struggles to save his home from being demolished to make way for the densest real estate development in U.S. history. Along the way, he falls in love, gets married and starts a family while living in a vacated building located at the heart of the project site. Over the course of seven years, Daniel spearheads the movement against the development plan as he and his community fight tenaciously in the courts, the streets, and the media to reveal the corruption at the heart of the plan.

After the screening, we'll be joined for a special Q&A with Joe Cressy, Toronto City Councillor for Ward 20, who will help us relate the film back to civic issues in Toronto. We'll discuss heritage preservation in Toronto, sustainable development and what can be done to ensure that Toronto's growth as a city is equitable and inclusive.
