Description

Through corruption and violence, Mexico has become, in many ways, a land of the missing and disappeared. Separated by events that occurred decades apart, two women fight internal and intimate battles to keep the memory for their absent loved ones close to them. Alicia’s mother was detained in the ’70s during the Dirty War of Mexico and ultimately disappeared by the government; Lilian lost her husband in 2010 to organized crime. Both struggle with the trials and mysteries of what memory means to them and what it is in itself. Memory acts as a powerful tool for both women to continue to live with hope, love and comfort, so that they do not disappear from their own lives. For Alicia and Lilian, it is a formidable political act to refuse to forget injustice. Heather Haynes
