Following a 20-year absence, acclaimed filmmaker Katja Fedulova returns home to reconcile her grandmother's heroic war efforts with the country she left behind. Inserting herself into the narrative, Fedulova asks: Are there still heroines in Putin's Russia? In her impressive and absorbing debut feature, we discover three young, dynamic women: a municipal politician challenging the current regime, an ex–beauty queen returning from the war in Ukraine and an anti-abortion activist, each fighting for her own vision of her country's future. In this complex and bewildering glimpse of present-day Russia, Fedulova opens an alluring window into the modern female experience and a new wave of empowerment that's not only full of Faith Hope Love, but also heartbreak and corruption.
