A performative, participatory documentary project shot in 32 US states, Yours in Sisterhood invites a variety of women to discover, embody and discuss a fascinating archive: letters sent in the 1970s to the editor of Ms., America's first mainstream feminist magazine—and mostly left unpublished. Participants from across the spectrum of sexual orientation, religious and racial backgrounds, physical ability and political viewpoint each choose, read aloud and spontaneously react to a letter written four decades ago in the same location. From personal accounts of harassment, discrimination, sex work or mastectomy, to larger calls to political action and inclusiveness, these words from the past find new meaning and a powerful resonance in the aftermath of Trump's election and the #MeToo movement. An invitation to reassess second-wave feminism in the light of intersectionality and contemporary experiences, Irene Lusztig's film creates an open-ended space for exchange, solidarity and empathy that's truly moving.
