Life looks almost ordinary in Brindisi, an Italian city sandwiched between two of Europe's largest coal and petrochemical plants. But in this expertly shot, close-up observation, the disastrous effects of industrialization come into menacingly clear focus.

Description

Ranu makes her way to the river to fish. As she enters the water, her fishing net drags behind her. Meanwhile, a loudspeaker alternately blares a call to prayer and an ominous warning to not drink the water. This visual masterpiece portrays an unnamed environmental disaster as it unfolds before our eyes. Eileen Arandiga
