Description

Hollywood has always been dominated by men, and the dismal reality is that not much has changed over the years: the number of movies directed by females has remained static for two decades. But with conversations around fair hiring practices and systemic gender discrimination happening across the media landscape, the world is starting to pay attention. Featuring candid behind-the-scenes stories from leading filmmakers—including Miranda July, Ava DuVernay, Lena Dunham, and Jill Soloway—Half the Picture is filled with ideas on how to advocate for change, aiming the spotlight on equity issues that will be recognizable to women in many fields.

After the screening, some of Toronto’s leading female filmmakers will discuss the vital issues in the film in the context of their personal experiences working and making a living as filmmakers in Canada. Guests include: Kami Chisolm (Altcinema Films), Annie Bradley (The Heat Mansion Inc.), Sharon Lewis (Urbansoul Inc.) and Lisa Jackson (The Crimes of Shelly Chartier).

Presented by Film Fatales

Co-presented with Women in Film & Television - Toronto (WIFT-T) and Women on Screen
