D: Naoko Ogigami | Japan | 2017 | 127 min
Tomo (Kakihara Rinka) is a 11 year old girl who moves in with her uncle Makio (Kiritani Kenta) after her mom takes off. Makio's girl friend Rinko (Ikuta) is a former man who has undergone a sex change operation. Tomo feels confused by Rinko's presence, but gets her first taste of a warm and loving household. Ikuta Toma who plays Rinko, takes on his first transgender role in what some call the first mainstream film from Japan to feature a transgendered charcater. The film is also the first in five years from director Naoko Ogigami, whose many fans adore the uniquely soothing atmosphere in her films like Kamome Diner, Megane and Toilet, which was filmed in Toronto. Community Partners: Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, Asian Community AIDS Services, Ontario Positive Asians
