Description

On February 14, 2018, a lone gunman walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and took the lives of 17 students and teachers. In the days, weeks and months after, the grief and pain of the surviving students and their families quickly begins to evolve into anger. In a country where mass shootings occur with alarming frequency, the students of Marjory Stoneman decide to take a stand, rallying together to rebuke politicians' offers of "thoughts and prayers" and demand real change in gun control legislation. The filmmakers cultivate deeply trusting and empathetic relationships with their subjects, allowing them to open up and share their experiences through candid interviews, personal videos and vérité footage. Without looking away, After Parkland seeks answers to heart-rending questions: How can survivors move forward after such senseless violence? And how does a community rebuild in the aftermath of such an indelible national tragedy? Gabor Pertic
