Description

Filming videos of beer-chugging contests, unboxings and knife reviews along with content drenched in racist and homophobic rhetoric is all in a day's work for 20-year-old social media star Max "Adlersson" Herzberg. With over 300,000 followers, he's celebrated by his content distributor, YouTube. Herzberg is part of a larger group of young men that are celebrities of this generation. Observing Max and his gang of human fidget spinners as they drink, debauch and harass over the course of a summer in Dresden, Germany, Lord of the Toys asks a compelling question: Is this group part of the far-right movement that's sweeping the West, or are they simply cogs in a larger system that profits from hopeless and desperate viewers? Ravi Srinivasan

The Changing Face of Europe program presented in partnership with European Film Promotion (EFP).
