Isolated and awe-inspiring in their natural beauty, the tiny English-language villages along the Gulf of St. Lawrence in eastern Quebec are losing their young people. With no fishing industry left to speak of, teenagers like the smart and articulate Brittney embrace exile as their only option. For them, the bigger cities and towns further south promise a viable future. But for many of the older generation, this is the land they know and love. Lifelong resident and former fisherman Garland finds the answer in reinventing his village as a tourist stop. Determined to help bring this new industry to town, he revamps the local historical museum, replete with jars of cooked seal and duck he canned himself.
