Description

Around the world, housing prices are soaring past income levels and the cost of living. In this groundbreaking film, award-winning director Fredrik Gertten follows Leilani Farha, newly appointed UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing, in her fight to define affordable housing as a fundamental human right. In her quest, she travels to some of the cities hardest hit by the crisis—London, New York, Barcelona and Toronto, where housing prices have increased at three times the rate of income. Among the many affected, we meet a man in Harlem who spends 90% of his income on housing and survivors of the infamous Grenfell Tower fire in London that left 72 people dead. With the support of great thinkers such as Joseph Stiglitz, Saskia Sassen and journalist Roberto Saviano, Farha confronts the big business perpetrators who put profits above the lives and safety of the urban populace.
