In Hot Docs’ 2019 audience research, over 50% of Canadian audiences say they select what to watch based on the trailer. Yet when it comes to marketing trailers, doc filmmakers are behind on the curve. In this session, a roster of editors dissect the elements of a great, catchy trailer.

Christine Armstrong, Editor, CharmyEDIT
Christine Armstrong is an editor who has worked on a variety of short films, tv series, commercials and feature films. She is an alumni of Cineplex Entertainment Film Program Editor's Lab at the Canadian Film Centre. Her short film work includes The Drop In and Mariner, both selected for TIFF’s Canada Top Ten, as well as the documentary The Skin We're In by Charles Officer. Armstrong’s upcoming work includes the TV series American Reject.

Mila Aung-Thwin, Filmmaker, EyeSteelFilm
Mila is co-founder of the Montreal’s EyeSteelFilm. He produced more than 30 feature documentaries including Emmy-winning Last Train HomeUp the Yangtze, and Rip: A Remix Manifesto. Most recently, he directed, produced, and edited Let There Be Light, about the quest for fusion energy. He served for five years as president of RIDM, Montreal's international documentary festival, and served on the juries of the Sundance Film Festival and the International Emmy Awards.

Jonathan Bogarín, Director/Producer, El Tigre Productions
Jonathan Bogarín is a Venezuelan-American filmmaker, teacher, visual artist and co-director of El Tigre Productions. His debut feature, 306 Hollywood, premiered opening night of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival as the first documentary ever included in the festival’s NEXT section. It has played over 45 festivals, won multiple awards, was released theatrically through the Sundance Creative Distribution Fellowship, and broadcast on POV. Jonathan was chosen for Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces of Film and awarded the Emerging International Filmmaker Award at Hot Docs.
