Janal Bechthold, Composer, Marcando Music
Janal Bechthold is a composer for film, TV, video games, and interactive media, having worked on numerous scores including Gods In Shackles, The Vatican Deception, Art of Obsession and 80 Degrees North. Her music has been broadcast on channels such as CBC, CTV, TSN, Discovery, PBS, TV5 and screened at festivals such as Hot Docs, Yorkton Film Festival, Diversity at Cannes, and at both the United Nations and the Supreme Court of India. Janal is second vice president of the Screen Composers Guild of Canada, chair of the Women Composer Advisory Council, and spearheaded the recent research report, "Gender in the Canadian Screen Composing Industry."
Erica Procunier, Composer
Erica Procunier is a Canadian composer for film and other media. Her credits include scores for over forty film, television, theatre, advertisement and video game productions. In 2017 she was commissioned by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto International Film Festival to compose a live film score to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. The commissioned film, DAM! The Story of Kit the Beaver, premiered in February 2017 live in concert with the TSO and toured across Canada to be performed by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Kingston Symphony Orchestra and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. Erica was selected to attend Berlinale Talents 2019 and is an alumna of the Canadian Film Centre’s Slaight Family Music Lab.
Joseph Shabason, Producer/Composer/Arranger, BoomBox Sound
Joseph Shabason is a multi-instrumentalist (sax, flute, keys), composer and recording artists. After graduating as a saxophone major from the University of Toronto Jazz Performance program in 2006 he went on to play and tour in the bands Destroyer, The War On Drugs, Andre Ethier and DIANA. Two albums that he has recorded on (Kaputt and Poison Season) have been shortlisted for the Polaris Prize and the self-titled album from his own band DIANA has been long-listed for the Polaris. Kaputt was voted the No. 2 album of the year by Pitchfork Media and Poison Season was also nominated for a Juno in 2015. Besides touring and playing in original projects Joseph has also done a lot of composing for television and commercials. In 2017 he was commissioned by Hot Docs to write the music for In the Name of All Canadians, their compilation of short docs on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and he is currently scoring Yung Chang's upcoming doc for HBO as well as CBC's new news podcast Front Burner.
