As a follow-up to the 2017 Doc Summit conversation, imagineNATIVE iNstitute presents their highly anticipated On Screen Protocols & Pathways media guide, an industry standard for working with Indigenous peoples, cultures and concepts.


MODERATOR

Kerry Swanson, Associate Director, Indigenous Screen Office
Kerry Swanson is the Associate Director of the Indigenous Screen Office in Toronto, and has been leading initiatives in Indigenous arts for over 15 years. She is Board Chair of imagineNATIVE and a co-founder of Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto. As Associate Director of Granting at Ontario Arts Council, Kerry led the launch of the Indigenous Culture Fund, a $5 million annual program supporting communities and ways of life. Kerry is from Chapleau, northern Ontario and is a member of Michipicoten First Nation.

SPEAKERS

Adriana Chartrand, Institute Manager, imagineNATIVE
Adriana Chartrand is the Institute Manager at imagineNATIVE. She has a B.A. and an M.A. in Film Studies and an Arts Administration & Cultural Management diploma. Previously, she worked within the social services community and more recently she has pre-screened short films for TIFF. Born and raised in Winnipeg, MB., she is Salteaux-Métis from the Red River region, Treaty 1 territory, and Irish/Scottish/Welsh/French.

Zoe Hopkins, Writer/Director, Filmmaker
Born in Bella Bella, BC, a remote fishing community, Zoe now lives in Six Nations, ON, where she teaches the Mohawk language online. Her award-winning first feature film, Kayak to Klemtu, is now streaming. Zoe is now in pre-production on her next feature Running Home.

Marcia Nickerson, Consultant
Marcia Nickerson provides high-level advisory services to Indigenous governments and organizations and other public sector clients. Marcia was on the board of imagineNATIVE for 14 years, serving as Board Chair for 8 years. In 2017 Marcia facilitated the creation of a national Indigenous Screen Office. In 2018 Marcia performed a national consultation process resulting in On Screen Protocols & Pathways: A Media Production Guide to Working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit Communities, Cultures, Concepts and Stories.
