Get up close to prima ballerina Karen Kain in this rarely seen portrait of a Canadian dance icon. Screening in commemoration of Kain’s 50th season with The National Ballet of Canada—the institution she now leads as Artistic Director—this gem from the CBC vaults accompanies Kain during her last season as Principal Dancer with the National Ballet, culminating in an emotional farewell performance in Winnipeg on October 4, 1997. Glorious archival clips of the trailblazing artist, who served as a muse for Rudolf Nureyev and Andy Warhol, are intertwined with loving tributes from friends and collaborators, including a moving rendition of Leonard Cohen's reading of "Dance Me to the End of Love," recorded especially for her.
Followed by an exclusive live conversation between Karen Kain and her friend, National Ballet colleague, writer and producer of the film, Veronica Tennant.
Presented in partnership with The National Ballet of Canada
